Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Battery Dance Company is visiting Indonesia as part of the US State Department`s Performing Arts Initiative, according to the US Embassy in its official website on Wednesday.

The New York based Battery Dance Company performed at Jakarta`s Taman Ismail Marzuki on Monday (October 19) . Their tour of Indonesia will also take them to Makassar, South Sulawesi, to conduct cultural exchange programs.

The US Embassy is hosting the Battery Dance Company for a dance-program tour in Indonesia October 9-17, 2011. During their Indonesia 2011 tour, Battery Dance Company will travel to Jakarta and Makassar to conduct performances; artist-to-artist exchanges; educational programs, including workshops, lecture-demonstrations, and master classes; and community and press events.

Battery Dance Company has produced nearly 100 original dance works choreographed by Jonathan Hollander, the Company`s founder and artistic director.

Battery Dance Company has collaborated with a diverse array of composers and designers and includes five accomplished dancers. The artistic director and technical director will accompany the group on the Indonesia 2011 tour.

The Company is among New York City`s foremost cultural ambassadors, having participated in international performing arts festivals, conferences, and symposia in 40 countries on 5 different continents.

In Indonesia, Battery Dance Company will conduct its "Dancing to Connect" program, an award-winning initiative created to engage international youth in creative team building exercises through modern dance.

Battery Dance Company is visiting Indonesia as part of the U.S. State Department`s Performing Arts Initiative program, which connects American artists with foreign audiences and cultural and educational institutions to exchange experiences and expertise.

The Battery Dance Company`s Indonesia 2011 tour aims to promote greater cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the United States and Indonesia, key aspects of the US-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership.
