Jakarta (ANTARA News)- Public Housing Minister Suharso Monoarfa has sent a letter of resignation to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

The head of state said in a press statement here on Monday that he received the letter of resignation dated October 1, 2011, on Sunday (Oct 16).

"Yesterday I received the letter from Suharso Monoarfa, the public housing ministry. The letter was dated October 12, which was five days ago. It contained his request to resign from his position as a minister," the president said.

Yudhoyono approved the resignation requested by Suharso who cited a personnel reason.

"I accept and approve the resignation of Suharso Monoarfa. The reason concerns personal matters," he said.

According to Yudhoyono, the minister from the United Development Party (PPP), had performed well and made achievement over the past two years, the president said.

He expressed his appreciation to the public housing ministry under the leadership of Suharso, for its financial report which had received a status of normal without exception from the State Audit Agency (BPK) in the last two consecutive years, namely 2009 and 2010.

Suharso`s achievements included a change in the Public Housing Credit system for low-income people, that led to significant efficiency.

He had also successfully carried out the construction of rental flats for soldiers and policemen.

"At the initiative and thanks to the hard work of Suharso Monoarfa, a number of rental flats have been built for more than 15,000 families of TNI (Indonesian Defense Forces) and Police personnel," Yudhoyono said.

He has also successfully produced a Law on Housing and Settlement Area, as well as a Bill on Multi-Story Flats.

Suharso was also behind the idea of a plan to construct houses of ex-East Timor refugees in East Nusa Tenggara Province, he said.

President Yudhoyono plans to install his newly-reshuffled cabinet on October 19, his spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said here on Saturday.

"The installation will be on October 19 before we leave for Lombok," he said after the summoning of candidates for deputy ministers at the President`s private residence.(*)
