Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chief Security Minister Djoko Suyanto has asked the newly-installed State Intelligence Agency (BIN) chief Lt Gen Marciano Norman to improve coordination of intelligence functions.

"The task of the new BIN chief is coordinating intelligence functions well," he said after attending the installation of new ministers here on Wednesday.

He said BIN must be more solid so that all intelligence forces could cooperate well in the interest of the nation to dismiss public opinion so far that Indonesian intelligence was often caught off-guard.

Djoko said the appointment of Lt Gen Marciano Norman to replace retired police general Sutanto was not a form of dichotomy between the military (TNI) and the police.

"No, there is nothing like that. What is important is he is a professional," he said.

Djoko meanwhile said he was optimistic law enforcement efforts would improve following the appointment of ruling Democrat Party figure and former lawyer Amir Syamsuddin as the new minister of law and presidential special aide for legal affairs Denny Indrayana as his deputy. Amir replaced Patrialis Akbar.

President Yudhoyono installed 11 new ministers on Wednesday following a cabinet reshuffle announced on Tuesday to improve his cabinet`s performance.

The new ministers include Amir Syamsuddin, Azwar Abubakar, minister for administrative reform, Gita Wirjawan, trade minister, Dahlan Iskan, state enterprises minister, Syarif Cicip Sutardjo minister of fisheries and marine resources and Baltazar Kambuaya minister of the environment.

Tourism minister Jero Wacik meanwhile was transfered as minister of energy and mineral resources while administrative reform minister EE Mangindaan as minister of transportation, trade Mari Elka Pangestu as tourism minister and environment minister Gusti Muhammad Hatta as minister of research and technology.

President Yudhoyono has also installed several new deputy ministers. (*)
