Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Transitional Council (NTC) in Libya should immediately take over power in the country after the death of Muamar Gaddafi who was reported killed in a clash with NYC fighters on Thursday, a legislator here said.

Speaking in an interview on Friday, Mahfudz Siddiq, chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR)`s Commission I, said Libya now needed a leadership that can unite all elements of the nation to ensure a successful transition to democracy.

In Mahfudz`s view, the NTC was the right organization to lead Libya into a new era after Gaddafi`s death.

He said the NTC should immediately mobilize the various elements of the Libyan people to make legal reforms urgently needed in the transitional period, including the enactment of an electoral law.

"It`s necessary for them to show to other countries that they are capable of handling the democratization process in order to minimize intervention by outside parties such as NATO and Western powers," he said.

After Gaddafi`s death, Libya should learn from Iraq which was now still facing a difficult situation in its democratization process.

"The Iraqis` inability to resolve their internal problems after the fall of Saddam Hussein had led the US to prolong its presence in Iraq and impose its own political and economic interests on the country," said Mahfudz whose commission deals with foreign policy.

In view of these conditions in Libya, Indonesia should consider giving a helping hand to the reconciliation process there as Indonesia already had experience in handling and successfully resolving various domestic conflicts in the past.

The most recent example of Indonesia`s successful conflict resolution effort was the signing of a peace pact with the separatist GAM (Free Aceh Movement) in 2005 which ended three decades of hostilities in Aceh.

The death of Muamar Gaddafi who had ruled Libya for 42 years was officially confirmed on Thursday (Oct 20) which had come up as a big issue in many madia all over the world.

The European Union already called for broad-based reconciliation in Libya after the death of Gaddafi and also offered their readiness to assist that North African country in rebuilding damaged facilities during the civil war.

On other hand, China has called for the existence of unity among elements of the national especially national unity to let economic recovery and stability run as expected.

China also recognized the NTC as Libya`s ruling authority last month, saying the umbrella of rebel groups against Gaddafi`s rule had vowed to respect Beijing`s economic interests.
