According to Hidayat Saputro, an airport official, the dead passenger was already ill two days before departing from Jakarta.
"The passenger had previously discussed her physical condition with her doctor before she decided to return home on board the flight. Olida apparently died in her sleep," Hidayat said.
Olida boarded the flight together with her sister, while her family members were already waiting for her at the airport`s lobby to take her home in Mandailing Natal, North Sumatra, after undergoing medical treatment in Jakarta.
She was found lifeless and pale after the plane touched down on Minangkabau airport`s runway. She was in her seat with the seat belt on and nobody suspected something wrong because she was sitting in a position as any sleeping passenger would normally be, he said.
According to the airport`s police chief, Second Police Inspector (Ipda) Adi Jais, Olida was returning from Jakarta where she had been receiving medical treatment with her sister.
"Today she was to have continued her trip home from Minangkabau International Airport," Adi said.
Adi said according to the airport`s medical clinic, Olida suffered from schizophrenia, a mental disorder characterized by disintegration of the thinking processes and emotional over responsiveness.
Olida`s family did not request an autopsy on her body although she had died suddenly, Adi said.
"There were no signs of violence on Olida`s body but her body was pale. At first it was suspected she was under the influence of drugs or some medicament for her illness." he said
Olida`s body was eventually taken to Mandailing Natal by her family.(*)
