Cairo (ANTARA News) - Arab League (AL) chief Nabil al- Arabi said Sunday that he hoped Syrian authorities positively deal with its efforts to stop violence in the country.

The Arab ministerial committee will hold talks with the Syrian leadership and the opposition, in the hope of helping them reach a national dialogue aimed at stopping violence in Syria, said Arabi in a statement.

Arabi added that the AL aimed at stopping all forms of violence in Syria to create appropriate atmosphere for a peaceful political solution, to ensure stability of the country, and to avoid foreign intervention or a civil war.

He said preparations were under way for a scheduled visit by the ministerial committee to Syria`s capital of Damascus Wednesday.

The secretary-general said that the AL and the ministerial committee didn`t issue warnings for threats, but sought to rally the Arab efforts to help Syria get out of its current crisis.

At an emergency meeting held in Egypt`s capital of Cairo on Oct. 16, the AL foreign ministers called on the Syrian government and all opposition parties in and outside Syria to hold a meeting in the AL headquarters within 15 days.

They decided to form a ministerial committee, which is presided by Qatar with representatives from Algeria, Sudan, Oman and Egypt, to participate in Syria`s national dialogue.

Syrian authorities recently said the country welcomed the impending visit of the Arab ministerial committee.
