Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa is scheduled to visit Myanmar next October 28 to observe the latter`s readiness to be Chair of ASEAN by 2014, foreign ministry spokesman Michael Tene said here on Tuesday.

"Minister Marty will observe what Myanmar is doing in order to ensure that it will be ready to host ASEAN meetings in 2014," he said.

Michael said after visiting Myanmar, the minister would report his findings to representatives of other ASEAN members. The decision of whether or not Myanmar could be approved as Chair of ASEAN in 2014 would be made together with members of the regional organization.

Asked about the democracy issue in Myanmar, Michael said Indonesia had noticed some progress was made by Myanmar recently. "But at the same time, we have to keep supporting Myanmar in implementing more democracy values in the country," he said. (*)
