"The duties of BKPM chief now are not simple because the economic crisis in the US and Europe are impacting on Indonesia," Mahfudz Abdurrahman, a member of the House of Representatives (DPR)`s Commission IV, said here on Friday.
Mahfudz said, a new BPKM chief should have been named and appointed at the same time as the installation of the reshuffled cabinet. Until now, Gita Wirjawan was still carrying out the duties of BKPM` chief, he added.
"Gita`s duties as trade minister are quite heavy because Indonesia`s trade is now beset by many problems," Mahfudz said.
BKPM, according to Mahfudz, had targeted the attraction of Rp240 trillion in investment in 2011 while based on a BKPM report, about Rp181 trillion or 75 percent of the target was achieved in the third quarter of 2011.
"We, of course, have to appreciate Gita`s hard work in BKPM," Mahfudz said.
Mahfudz added the House`s Commission IV would invite more investors to Indonesia in an effort to spur national economic growth.
"The new BKPM chief should have extensive international relations and be able to cooperate well with DPR, Commission IV in particular," Mahfudz said.
Earlier, Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi had said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had yet to name new chiefs for the BPKM and the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) whose head had been appointed a deputy minister.
Sudi said, in the absence of their old chiefs, and pending the appointment of their replacements, the two agencies were expected to continue running normally.
