Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Security officers of Polonia Airport here on Friday nabbed a Garuda Indonesia passenger for carrying 7.4 kg of methamphetamine.

The smuggler was identified as Noerdin M Amin (42) from Bekasi, West Java, a source said.

Noerdin was about to board Garuda flight GA181 MES-CGK from Medan to Jakarta when he was stopped.

Head of the North Sumatra Police`s Illicit Drug Sub-Unit Senior Adjunct Commissioner Andi Rian confirmed the arrest and said that Noerdin would be taken to Jakarta for further investigation.

Meanwhile, last October 2011, Lampung Police`s Bakauheni Seaport unit foiled an attempt to smuggle out 45 kg of methamphetamine.

AD (36), a resident of Air Hitam, Patu Sekalin sub district, Pekanbaru, Riau Province, was detained for trying to smuggle out the meth kept in a cigarette box, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Sulistyaningsih, a spokesman of the Lampung Police, said in Bandarlampung, Lampung Province.

The suspect took a bus when he was about to cross to Java Island from Bakauheni Harbor, Lampung Province, Sumatra Island.

The police are still investigating the case and trying to make another arrest.

Earlier, the Lampung police had detained two persons, namely Kharil Albizar from Bandarlampung and Abdul Malik of Jabung, East Lampung, for possessing 8.3 grams of meth.

On September 20, 2011, the Lampung police had foiled a smuggling attempt of 2.7 kg methamphetamine worth Rp5 billion to Java Island from Bakauheni Harbor.

During 2011, the Lampung Police have seized a total of 35 kg of illicit drugs. (*)
