NTT Regional Development Planning Board chairman Wayan Darmawan said here on Monday that the `Anggur Merah` independent village program was supported by Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), World Vision Indonesia (WVI), United Nations Children`s Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Care International, and Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Maternal and Neonatal Health (AIPMNH).
Wayan said Anggur Merah was an acronym that stood for `Anggaran Untuk Rakyat Menuju Sejahtera or budget for the people to prosper, which was launched in 2011 by Governor Frans Lebu Raya.
According to him, the program would first be implemented in 287 villages or at least one village in one sub-district across the province.
Wayan added that each village would get an injection of funds amounting Rp250 million from regional budget for productive economic enterprises.
"This program is widely supported and six international institutions have so far expressed readiness to make it a success," Wayan said, adding that starting from 2012 to 2013 the AusAID would provide A$2 million for the success of the program.
He said the World Vision Indonesia would help market the products community groups from the villages where the program is implemented.
And the other international institutions will act in accordance with their respective missions.
Wayan said that the program was expected to improve the economy, health, and education of the people in the villages.
