"The motive of the self-immolation should be investigated so that it will be clear and not develop into a political issue," Anas said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - General Chairman of the ruling Democrat Party (PD) Anas Urbaningrum called on police to disclose the motive of the person who set himself on fire in front of the State Palace on Wednesday.

"The motive of the self-immolation should be investigated so that it will be clear and not develop into a political issue," Anas said at the PD headquarters here on Thursday.

He said that all parties should pay attention to the safety of all when they were lodging a protest so that nothing undesired would happen.

"A protest, no matter of what kind , is a normal thing but it should not pose a danger to or threaten any body, including the protester him or herself. What is important is to convey the substance of the protest," he said.

According to Anas, if a protest is about poverty, it should be conveyed clearly. The government is now working hard to overcome poverty.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was informed about the self-immolation incident which happened in front of the State Palace on Wednesday evening.
