"We urge Syrian authorities to stop the use of violence and prioritize dialogs to be able to manage the aspirations of the Syrian people properly," Marty said following a series of bilateral talks with his foreign counterparts on the sidelines of the 4th Bali Democracy Forum at Nusa Dua, Bali, on Friday.
Marty said latest developments in Syria had shown no signs of improvement. Indonesia was very much concerned about the latest developments in the country.
"We want this problem resolved democratically through dialogs. We don`t want to see innocent civilians fall victim (to the conflict)," he said.
Violence engulfed Syria in recent weeks with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Mouallem accusing armed groups of being behind the violence.
At a press conference held in Syria`s capital of Damascus, Moallem charged that other Arab countries and their Western backers refused to believe that armed groups existed in Syria, but instead "they accuse the Syrian army of committing crimes against Syrians."
AFP quoted the UN human rights watchdog as saying the number of people killed in Syria following violence against demonstrators since March 2011 reached at least 4,000.(*)
