Jepara, C. Java (ANTARA News) - Two children who went missing in Bandengan Beach were finally found dead in the vortex of seawater of the beach in Jepara district, Central Java province during their holiday in the region, a spokesman said.

The fatalities identified as Wawan,7 and M Fajar Helpandi,10 were found by the Search and Rescue (SAR) team on Wednesday (Dec.21) and Thursday (Dec.22) respectively, the Jepara district SAR team chief Ahmad Setyanto said here on Friday.

The two victims hailing from Selagi village, Pakis Aji sub-district, Jepara district spent their holidays along with their friends and parents at the Bandengan Beach, Ahmad said.

Both children allegedly died due to the vortex of seawater that is only about 30 meters from the seaside.

"Actually we have mapped the location of the seawater vortex, hoping that visitors could avoid approaching the dangerous location," the spokesman cited.

Apart from the meeting of two currents of seawater, the location is also deeper compared with the rest of the beach, Ahmad said.

"A special mark should be placed at the dangerous location in a bid to avoid similar accidents in the future," he disclosed, hoping that parents should control their children when bathing on the beach.

On Wednesday (Dec.21), the local along with the national SAR teams came to the location to find out the victims.

Following the incident, the canoe and raft rental counter at the beach was closed for fear of the similar accident in the future.(*)
