"I have instructed the Democratic Party faction members in the House of Representatives hailing from West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) to visit the location where the clash happened and make consolidation and coordination with the local government relating to the clash at Sape harbor," Democratic Party faction chairman in the House of Representatives (DPR), Mohammad Jafar Hafsah made the remarks through e-mail here on Sunday.
Mohammad Jafar Hafsah also said that as chief of the Democratic party faction, he had consolidated especially with members of the House commission VII from the Democratic party overseeing mines and energy in an effort to get a comprehensive report on the Bima clash.
Jafar had also instructed the members of the Democratic party faction hailing from NTB namely Abdurahman Abdullah and Nanang Samodra to coordinate with the local government to seek a settlement on the Sape incident.
In the meantime, the police have detained 31 people in connection with the clash between demonstrators and police personnel in Bima district, West Nusa Tenggara province, a police spokesman said.
The 31 people consisted of 25 adults and six children, spokesman of the National Police Insp. Gen. Saud Usman Nasution said here on Saturday.
Three of them, identified by their initials as H, A alias O and SY, were arrested on charges of inciting the riot, he said adding H had earlier been put on the West Nusa Tenggara police`s wanted list.
He said two people killed in the clash were identified as Arief Rachman (18) and Syaiful (17).
The police also had seized 10 machetes, four sickles, one lance, one molotov cocktail and two bottles of gasoline from the demonstrators as evidence, he said.(*)
