Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono chaired a cabinet meeting on Thursday to discuss a number of issues related to the sending of Indonesian migrant workers (TKI) abroad and the performance of the TKI task force formed recently.

"I have instructed the manpower and transmigration minister and other ministers to make an overall evaluation of the conditions of migrant workers abroad. The result of the evaluation is important to decide on our further policy," the President said in opening the cabinet meeting at his office.

The meeting, attended by all cabinet ministers , was to discuss the evaluation of the procedure of sending Indonesian migrant workers abroad, and the performance of the TKI task force which was formed to help migrant workers facing dead penalty in other countries.

"The TKI task force, formed recently to deal with various cases befalling migrant workers, has made a lot of progress that has to be evaluated," the president said.

The President formed the task force in July 2011. Former religious affairs minister Maftuh Basyuni was named the task force`s chairman and its members included former National Police Chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri, former foreign affairs minister Alwi Shihab, and former attorney general Hendarman Supandji.

Also present at the cabinet meeting were Vice President Boediono, members of the Presidential Advisory Council, and other related officials.(*)
