Karawang (ANTARA News) - Some 17 illegal Afghan immigrants who had been arrested by the police investigation section of the people smuggling department and handed over to the Karawang immigration office, West Java, escaped on Sunday.

Karawang Immigration Office executive Hertjansjah Wiradinata said some of the 17 illegal immigrants managed to escape through their bathroom.

He said the illegal immigrants managed to get away due to the lack of guards.

The Karawang immigration office has actually received 77 Afghan illegal immigrants from the Indonesian police, and now 60 remained in custody, including 40 from Afghanistan, 11 from Iran, five from Iraq, and three from Syria. (*)
