"Hopefully the ultra-modern container terminal would boost the economy and smoothen the flow of logistics in Kupang and its surroundings," Djarwo said when inaugurating Tenau Kupang port container terminal in Kupang Monday.
He said it has become a general tendency that the flow of terminal containers had been increasing throughout Indonesia, especially in the ports being run by PT Pelabuhan Indonesia III, like in Tenau Kupang.
He said in 2009, 49,809 boxes of containers entered Tenau Kupang port, and in 2010 the volume increased to 54,751 boxes, and in 2011 reached 56,708 boxes.
Djarwo therefore asked that the container terminals need to be operated professionally, improving the services of the customers.
He also said that the Tenau Kupang port container terminal has a very high potential in view of its strategic location in the eastern parts of Indonesia, as many terminal ships entered the port from Surabaya, Dili and Australia, he said. (*)
