Sukabumi, West Java (ANTARA News) - The National HIV/AIDS Commission (KPA) of Sukabumi has since 2000 recorded some 400 HIV/AIDS sufferers in the city of whom 130 have died.

"We have recorded 130 people who died of HIV/AIDS between 2000 and 2012," Rita Fitrianingsih of the KPA`s Sukabumi branch said here on Monday.

She said the KPA had recently recorded 14 new cases, all involving women. This fact was interesting because over the last 10 years most of the sufferers were males.

The KPA Sukabumi secretary said the spread of HIV/AIDS in Sukabumi was caused by the practice of free sex and the use of contaminated needles by drug addicts.

"During the last ten years, HIV/AIDS spread by intravenous drug users but now most sufferers contracted the disease through free sex," she said.
