Palembang, South Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The 7th conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (PUIC) said the various new technologies in the nuclear, chemical and biological fields being developed in the world for peaceful purposes play an important role to stimulate progress in developing countries.

In one of the draft resolutions to be adopted by the 7th conference of PUIC being held in Palembang from January 24 to 31, it was said that with energy resources becoming increasingly depleted, it was necessary to develop and use modern technology as a solution.

One of the technologies that can be used as a future energy source was nuclear.

Related to the utilization of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, the delegations of Islamic country parliamentary should consider that there should be no attempt to limit the development of these technologies built by a number of countries against other countries, particularly in terms of technology devices or material transfer.

The draft resolution also stressed that all the countries have equal rights without any discrimination in developing new technologies, especially nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The international legal instruments should be encouraged to give these rights to all countries in the world, particularly for developing countries.

On the other hand, the resolution also stressed that the parliaments of Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) member countries to strengthen the cooperation among them in the development of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes under international agreements Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT).

The 7th conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Conference was participated in by 37 countries.

They are Afghanistan, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Gabon, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Kyrgyz, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Mali, Mauritania and Morocco.

In addition, Mozambique, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey, and United Arab Emirates.
