Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Two independent pairs of Jakarta gubernatorial and vice-gubernatorial candidates have met the minimum popular support requirement stipulated by the law, the Jakarta Gubernatorial Election Commission said on Monday.

The two pairs are Faisal Basri-Biem Benjamin and Hendardji Soepandji-Riza Patria who were able to show proof they were supported by a total of 888,423 and 1,165,808 residents respectively, Dedi Supriyadi, head of technicalities of the Jakarta Election Commission, said.

The proof was provided in the form of the photocopies of the residential identity cards (KTPs) of the supporters concerned which were counted by the Jakarta Gubernatorial Election Commission at 11,45 on Monday.

There were two other independent candidate pairs the numbers of whose minimum popular support had not yet reached the minimum level while the KTPs of people endorsing them were still being counted,

The minimum popular support data on all the candidate pairs would be verified during a two-week period (February 13 - 27) and eventually be passed on to the Balloting Committees of all city wards in Jakarta,

One independent candidate pair, Mulyo Wibisono-Ngadisah, was disqualified because they were unable to meet the minimum popular support requirement of 407,340 potential votes or four percent of Jakarta`s population of 10,183,498.

The Jakarta gubernatorial election is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 11,2012. Eligible independent candidate pairs would officially register their candidacy with the Jakarta Gubernatorial Election Commission together with candidate pairs supported by political parties in the period March 13-19,2012.
