Taipei (ANTARA News) - The Ministry of National Defense supports Taiwan's domestic development of submarines if relevant expertise can be secured and restrictive factors addressed, MND
spokesman Luo Shou-he said Tuesday.

Building the country's own submarines at home has been the Republic of China Navy's hope since 1976, Luo said, pointing out that the navy has secured primary warship building capability after having built over 100 military vessels over the past several decades.

Taiwan, however, still has more bridges to cross when it comes to the key technology for building submarines, he said.

Taiwan has failed to access this key technology due to international political and diplomatic circumstances, he added.
