Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government on Tuesday evacuated 20 Indonesian citizens from conflict-torn Syria and expects them to arrive in Jakarta by air on Wednesday afternoon.

All of the 20 Indonesian nationals are domestic helpers and they were evacuated in unharmed condition from Damascus and other parts of Syria, FLE Priatna, director of information and media affairs at the foreign ministry, said in press statement on Tuesday.

Six of the Indonesian workers had been living in the critical city of Homs, one in Hama and two in the outskirts of Damascus.

After arrival at Jakarta`s Soekarno-Hatta international airport, the 20 domestic helpers would be turned over the National Agency for Placement and Protection of Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) which would facilitate their further transportation to their places of origin, said Tatang Razak, the foreign ministry`s director of Indonesian citizens protection.
