Chief judge Gunawan Tri Boediono, reading the verdict, said that Pollock was "sentenced to six months in jail minus time spent in detention." He said the defendant had been proven to be using the drug in violation of the country`s law number 35 of 2009 on narcotics.
The sentence was lower than the prosecutor's demand of seven months in jail. The judge said Pollock`s act ran in opposition to the Indonesian government`s program in fighting narcotics use.
Pollock said through his lawyer that he accepted the sentence. Based on his calculation, he will be free within 15 days as he has spent time in detention.
Pollock was caught around 1 am on September 16 in Legian when the police confiscated 0.4 grams of methamphetamine from him.
Pollock told the police that he bought the drugs in Kuta from someone he did not know.
