The AL and UN have agreed on appointing an Arab deputy for the envoy to help him performing his mission.
Cairo (ANTARA News) - Joint envoy of the United Nations (UN) and Arab League (AL) for Syria, Kofi Annan, will begin his mission on March 7 with a visit to the AL headquarters in Cairo, AL chief Nabil al-Arabi said Thursday.

"The AL and UN have agreed on appointing an Arab deputy for the envoy to help him performing his mission", al-Arabi was quoted by Egyptian official news agency MENA as saying at a press conference.

The AL chief called for reaching a cease-fire in Syria by issuing a declaration from the United Nation supported by all states to give Annan a chance to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

"Annan`s visit to Syria will be followed by a visit to other countries affecting the Syrian affairs in a bid to find a solution ", he said.

Al-Arabi said that the AL is against violence and has no decision regarding some countries` suggestion of arming the Syrian opposition.
