The newly installed ambassadors are Salman Al Farisi, ( to the United Arab Emirates; based in Abu Dhabi), B Saptomo (to Bulgaria and Albania; based in Sofia), Lt Gen (Retired) Safjen Nurdina (to Iraq; based in Baghdad), and Sunu Umahadi Sumarno (to Uganda, Kenya, Heles, the United Nations Environment Program/UNEP, Mauritius; based in Nairobi).
They are appointed based upon the Presidential Decrees No. 6/P/2012, dated February 6, 2012, and No. 7/P/2012, dated February 8, 2012.
Vice President Boediono, First Lady Ani Yudhoyono and several cabinet ministers were among the dignitaries present at the ceremony.
Speaking to over 130 Indonesian diplomats in Jakarta, on February 23 ,President Yudhoyono asked them to step up economic diplomacy and to orient themselves to results as their performance would be judged by what they had achieved.
To help him monitor the performance of Indonesia`s ambassadors in foreign countries, Yudhoyono asked them to submit annual reports on their work to him directly.
"Five pages to me are enough with copies to the vice president, the foreign minister and the head of the Ministerial Work Performance Monitoring Unit (UKP4). Write your reports factually, what you have achieved, which we will later, of course, verify," the president said. (*)
