Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The construction of Trans Sumatra toll road is expected to start this year, State-Owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan said here on Wednesday.

Among the first toll road projects that will start soon in 2012 were those connecting Padang to Padang Panjang (West Sumatra province) and Kualanamu-Tebing Tinggi (North Sumatra).

He said there were two ways to boost economic growth in Sumatra island, namely by providing adequate power supplies and toll roads.

The minister expressed optimism that the construction of the toll road would run smoothly as some of the local governments in Sumatra were financially capable to fund the project.(*)
