"They had planned to rob jewelry shops, money changers and cafes," the National Police head of the public relations division, Inspector General Saud Usman Nasution said.
Two of the suspects, who were shot in two locations in the Gunung Soputan area, were HN (32) from Bandung and AG (30) from Jimbaran, he said.
The other three were UH alias K (31) from Jepara, Central Java, D (27) from Bandung, and M alias AH (30) from Makassar, South Sulawesi. They were shot in the Danau Poso area, he added.
Saud said the suspects had been staying in two hotels in Bali since March 17. One of them, HN, was on police`s wanted list in connection with the CIMB Niaga bank robbery in Medan, North Sumatra.
The heavily guarded bodies of the terrorist suspects are at the Sanglah hospital morgue in Denpasar.
"They will be taken to the Dr Squanto police hospital in Jakarta today," he said.
The bodies were first taken to the Treat police hospital soon after the shootings in Saner around 9:30 pm on March 18, before being moved to Sanglah.
