Lubukbasung, West Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Police caught a 73-year old grandmother while she was about to sell five kilograms of marijuana in front of the Matur sub-district office here on Wednesday.

The Deputy Chief of the Agam District Police Resort, Commissioner Ichwan flanked by chief intelligence Adjunct Commissioner Jufrinaldi said the suspect was now put in the police detention cell while her case was being investigated with regard to finding the persons the marijuana would be given to.

"We are still investigating the case with regard to finding the persons the illegal stuff would be given to," Ichwan said at Lubukbasung.

He said the arrest was made following information from the public a week ago about the transaction.

Based on the information the police then sent an anti-narcotic unit personally led by Jufrinaldi to the location.

The suspect has confessed she has several times brought the illegal stuff to Agam, Pariaman, Tanahdatar and Jambi province.

"Jayen Mariam is an inter-province marijuana supplier as she has made transactions several times while two of her sons had also been arrested over the same case," he said.

The suspect is charged with violating Law Number 35 of 2009 on narcotics carrying a maximum penalty of 20 years in jail and a fine of Rp10 billion.

He said the suspect also said that she had only been ordered to bring marijuana to a person in Matur for Rp1 million.

Ichwan said the suspect brought the stuff packed in a plastic bag and went by car and dropped in Bukittinggi before taking a travel service car to go to Agam.(*)
