Palu, Central Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Scores of houses in Buol regency, Central Sulawesi, had been heavily and lightly damaged by strong winds on Monday.

Regional secretary Mahmud Bakulu on Tuesday confirmed yesterday`s natural disaster at noon local time.

He said heavy rain and strong winds in Buol caused many trees to collapse, and many glass windows of the regent`s office and Buol regency education agency and sports center were broken.

"But there were no casualties or injuries caused by the natural disaster, except some material loss," he said.

In the meantime, observation and information chief of the meteorological station of Mutiara airport in Palu Aschadi SR said the extreme weather would continue until next month.

The whole of Central Sulawesi may have light and heavy rainfall.

Sea waves may reach a height of more than 3 meters, and therefore operating fishermen and small boats need to be very careful.

Aschadi also warned people especially those living near rivers to watch out for flash floods.

He said Central Sulawesi has many small, medium and large rivers, so that long rains may cause floods and land slides.

The latest flash flood struck Sigi regency in December 2011, killing six residents.

More than 100 families in Bolapapu village, Kulawi subdistrict had lost their homes caused by the flash floods.
