Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - The Aceh Institute and the Aceh Forum of Non-Governmental Organizations (Forum LSM Aceh) which monitored simultaneous regional elections in Aceh recorded 40 violent cases which happened before the polling day in the province.

"As many as 27 of the 40 violent cases happened during the campaign, and 22 percent of the cases took place in the public area," assistant to the program manager of the Forum LSM Aceh, Irfandi said here on Tuesday.

Most of the violent cases happened in the East Aceh coastal areas such as in districts of Pidie, East Aceh and North Aceh capital city of Lhokseumawe.

According to him, the campaign supporting teams of the gubernatorial candidates were involved in almost all of the violent actions.

The Independent Election Commission in Aceh (KIP Aceh) will conduct the first-ever simultaneous regional polls on April 9.

The election campaign will take place from March 23 through 5 April, 2012. (*)
