Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) is to assist in developing the country`s agricultural sector in a move to support the nation`s food security, TNI Chief Admiral Agus Suhartono said here on Friday.

At TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Friday, the TNI chief and Agriculture Minister Suswono signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on TNI involvement in the agriculture sector.

Agus said the MoU was then followed with a joint agreement to update the nation`s food security through the agricultural development program.

He added that TNI involvement in the development of the agricultural sector was a sign of its cooperation in supporting the government`s program.

According to Agus, the development of the agricultural sector was a strategic part of the national development program because it was closely related to productivity and food security.
