Jambi, Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Police detained a truck driver and seized 1.16 tons of dried marijuana, worth Rp2 billion, which was being carried by a truck from Aceh on the Trans-Sumatra highway in Muarojambi district early Thursday.

The Jambi provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Anang Iskandar, said here on Thursday that the truck driver told the police that the dried marijuana would actually be transported to Surabaya, East Java.

The police chief noted that the truck driver and his helper were members of a narcotics syndicate.

"I see there is a syndicate in this case, because police failed to catch another loaded truck of marijuana and continued to chase it," Brig. Gen. Anang Iskandar said.

According to him, the police encountered the marijuana carriers on Thursday during a police patrol dubbed "Patroli Multi Sasaran" that took place in the region. (*)
