"We will see whether the Malaysian standard operating procedures [SOP] for pacifying targets were followed by police in Negeri Sembilan in the case of the Indonesian migrant workers," National Police head of public relations division Inspector General Saud Usman Nasution said here on Friday.
He stated that the Indonesian police respected the rules used in foreign countries to ensure security.
"According to SOP in Indonesia, the police are only allowed to shoot the legs to pacify targets," Usman noted.
As has been reported, the three Indonesian migrant workers were shot in the head and left chest in Negeri Sembilan by Malaysian police, on mere suspicion that the three were about to conduct a robbery.
"If the SOP was found to be violated by the Malaysian police in Negeri Sembilan, the Indonesian police would take a stand," Usman said.
He explained that the Indonesian police could not urge the Malaysian police to immediately take firm action against their members who might have violated procedures, but they could cooperate with Malaysia's police.
"We could give suggestions needed by the Malaysian police," he said.
