Batam, Riau Islands (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono held a limited cabinet meeting to discuss the development of Riau Islands` potentials, including the development of the Batam, Bintan and Karimun economic zones here on Friday night.

"We are holding a coordination meeting which is attended by members of the Second Indonesia United Cabinet, the governor, the chairman of the Legislative Assembly (DPRD) and other regional government officials," the president said.

He said that the development of Riau Islands` economy could be carried out because the region had a lot of potentials and opportunities and were open wide for development.

"We want the development to achieve a success because there are opportunities and potentials," President Yudhoyono said.

He said that areas around Riau Islands continued to develop like areas around Johor and Singapore. Therefore, the regional government was called on to take anticipatory steps and create opportunities for increasing economic development. (*)
