Magelang, East Java (ANTARA News) - A number of Buddhist students of the Indonesian Buddhist Students Group (Hikmahbuddhi) called for the preservation of the Borobudur temple, handing out brochures to pilgrims coming to the Mendut temple for vesak meditation at 10.34 am.

"We are handing out campaign brochures for Borobudur preservation to Buddhists and also to local residents. We prepare more than 5,000 brochures," Hikmahbudi Chairwoman Ivana said here on Sunday.

The students also unfurled banners in some locations calling for the Borobudur preservation. They are also cleaning the Borobudur temple areas from non-organic rubbish.

"We are also working together with the local people for Borobudur preservation."

Buddha`s birthday, known as Vesak Day (or Wesak), is celebrated on various dates in the spring throughout the world, and each Buddhist culture has its own traditions for the day. It is usually observed during the first full moon in May.
