Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The search and rescue team is reportedly 50 metres away from the location of Sukhoi plane crash, according to Chairman of National Search and Rescue Agency Daryatmo.

"Eighty-five personnel have climbed the cliff and they are now 50 metres away from the crash site." he said here on Friday.

Daryatmo noted land evacuation was the most possible way to evacuate victims of the plane crash. "Bad weather condition makes it difficult to evacuate victims using the chopper," he said.

"The plan is that the evacuation team today will use the land route. We hope the team will reach the crash site soon, but the condition of the victims will be explained later," Daryatmo added.

"Seven helicopters had been prepared for air evacuation, but the land evacuation route seems more possible in current conditions," he explained.

Meanwhile, a helipad has been made ready for evacuation purposes in Cijeruk subdistrict, but the rescue team is still unable to set up a helipad near the crash site.

The evacuation team comprises members of the National Search and Rescue Agency, Indonesian Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Police, and Mobile Brigade.

The team is expected to reach the crash site soon, but air evacuation cannot be done due to bad weather conditions.

Daryatmo stated the agency still could not provide any information to the victims' families because the team had not reached the crash site.

"Puma helicopters are now waiting in the Cijeruk village post, while the Indonesian Red Cross`s helicopter is waiting in Sentul. Two Air Force helicopters are waiting at the Halim Perdanakusumah air base in Jakarta, and Police helicopters are in Bogor. (*)
