"Indonesia already has 15.4 million hectares of waters as a conservation area."Pontianak, West Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government has set aside 20 million hectares of its waters as a conservation area, a senior official said.
"Now, Indonesia already has 15.4 million hectares of waters as a conservation area," Director General for Coastal Community and Business Development of the Ministry of Maritime and Fisheries Affairs, Ansori Zawawi said here on Friday.
He said that the water conservation areas fell under the authorities of the Maritime and Fisheries Ministry and of the local governments.
Ansori explained that under the strategic plan of the ministry the management of the conservation area should be done as effectively as possible.
"Effective management is expected to have covered 4.5 million hectares by 2014," he noted. The guidelines for the effective management is now being drawn up.
