"We have opened a command post at Cimelati exactly at Murbai post near a climbing track to Mount Salak," chief of the Sukabumi police resort Adj Snr Comr M Firman said on Sunday.
The command post was also aimed at anticipating the possibility of victims of the plane crash being evacuated by land, he said.
He said the command post also had members of the joint Search and Rescue team.
"We are waiting for information from the central command post about whether or not the remains of the plane crash victims will be evacuated by land. We, at the command post, are on standby," he said.
He said the bodies of victims of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 which crashed near Mount Salak in West Java last Wednesday had so far been evacuated by air thanks to good weather.
"Yet we remain on standby at the command post. We fear the weather will not be good to evacuate the victims by air so we are ready to evacuate them by land," he said.
Sukhoi Superjet 100 was carrying 45 passengers, including 34 Indonesians, eight Russians, two Italians and one Frenchman when it crashed. The crash occurred as the plane was conducting a demonstration flight for potential Indonesian buyers.(*)
