Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Police have seized a boat carrying Myanmarese citizens traveling without legal documents in the Tanjung Berombang waters in Tanjung Balai, North Sumatra.

The North Sumatra Police Command`s Director of Marine Police, Senior Commissioner Ario Gatut, said here on Saturday that the boat was seized at around 5.30pm on Friday.

Police seized the boat while patrolling in the Tanjung Balai waters after noticing that the boat had no name.

The boat was captained by Samsul (47), a villager of Sirantau, Tanjung Balai with a crew member named Rajali (30), a villager from Tualang Raso.

Police found five Myanmarese aboard the boat who could produce no legal documents for entering Indonesia.

The five Myanmarese, Nurkan (34), Muhammad Rafik bin Abdul Sidik (38), Muhammad Hanib (38), Muhamad Umar bin Abubakar (40) and Kasim (40), were taken to Tanjung Balai port for further questioning.

Police are investigating to see if there is any connection with human smuggling.

"All the evidence has been submitted to the Marine Police of the Tanjung Balai Resort Command," he said.(*)
