The President was flanked by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono during the visit.
The President placed a bouquet in the Santa Cruz cemetery then went on foot to the Seroja Heroes Cemetery.
Later the President and the First Lady spread flowers in several graves such those of Major Ginting, Marines Captain Gustav, Dili police officer Wolowilem Riwu and Infantry 141 member Marzuki.
When walking 200 meters from Santa Cruz to Seroja, the President and entourage had been warmly welcomed and greeted by members of the local community.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, First Lady Ani Yudhoyono and entourage arrived in Timor Leste Saturday at 10 am Dili time, or 8 am in Jakarta.
Upon arrival at Nicolau Lobato airport, Yudhoyono went straight to the Timor Leste Predential Office for a bilateral meeting with his Timor Leste counterpart Jose Ramos Horta at Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace.
After the bilateral meeting, the two presidents signed an MoU on cooperation between the two countries in various sectors such as youth affairs.
The President also received a token of appreciation of the Timor Leste government handed by President Ramos Horta, and then held a meeting with Timor Leste PM Xanana Gusmao.
Later in the afternoon, the Indonesian Head of State visited the Seroja and Santa Cruz Heroes Cemeteries. And in the near the small hours of Sunday (May 20) Yudhoyono attended the installation of the new President of Timor Leste.
On Sunday morning the President and the First Lady will be concluding their Timor Leste Independence Day celebrations.(*)
