The council of judges comprising Reno Listowo, Riska and Ridwan, in their verdict believed that on the basis of witnesses and facts during the court session, Mindo, head of special crime of the Riau Islands Police Office (now non-active) has not been proven guilty of murdering Putri Mega Umboh, his wife.
"The defendant has not been proven guilty and exempted from all charges and demands from the public prosecutor," Reno Listowo told the court.
The court said during the sessions non of the witnesses made incriminating statements.
The public prosecutor said it will file an appeal to the Riau Islands High Court.
The verdict was different from those on the two other defendants, Gugun Gunawan alias Ujang (Uj) and Rosma alias Ros yang, who got 20 and 15 years in jail respectively.
Gugun Gunawan alias Ujang (Uj) got 20 years following the statements of witnesses and pieces of evidence proving that he was the mastermind of the premeditated murder of Putri Mega Umboh on June 24, 2011, while Ujang got 17 years in jail.
Rosma alias Ros, an accomplice, got 15 years in jail as demanded by the prosecutor.
The court sessions had been tightly guarded by Batam and Riau Islands police.
