... Indonesia should continue to be careful and vigilant, and more actively observe the development of the world economy...
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia is bracing itself for the possibility of an economic slowdown following the worsening crisis in Europe, said Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo here on Friday.

"Not only do we have to be careful and prepare ourselves for the crisis, but we must also continue with structural reforms to prevent it from occurring in Indonesia," remarked the minister after installing second echelon officials of the Ministry of Finance.

According to Martowardoyo, the government has been on guard against the situation in Europe since last year, and has implemented an appropriate monetary fiscal policy to prevent the European crisis from spreading to Indonesia.

Therefore, he declared, the government is optimistic that the economic growth next year will reach 6.8-7.2 percent, with the investment sector expected to be the main contributor to the nation's economy.

"Anyway, Indonesia should continue to be careful and vigilant, and more actively observe the development of the world economy," the finance minister pointed out.

He added that the government had also prepared itself by improving the investment climate and implementing reforms in the field of land acquisition.

The government's policy encourages development in the investment sector in 2013 and supports the implementation of the Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Economic Development (MP3EI).
