Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Former Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor Miranda Goeltom was detained on Friday as a suspect in an alleged bribery case, in connection with her election to her post in 2004.

"I will be cooperative and I accept the detention. I hope the case will be processed fast so that everything will be clear," she said after being grilled by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Miranda said she believed in the KPK`s capabilities and hoped the investigation could be carried out quickly, so that she would not have to undergo the judicial process for too long.

Miranda was questioned from 10am to around 6pm before being placed in detention.

KPK put Miranda in the KPK detention center where another corruption suspect, such as former legislator Angelina Sondakh and convict Mindo Rosalina Manulang, are already present.

KPK had named Miranda as a suspect in the bribery case since January 26, 2012. She was allegedly involved with Nunung Nurbaeti, the wife of former national police deputy chief Adang Dorodjatun, in distributing 480 traveler`s checks worth Rp24 billion among 26 legislators during 1999-2004.

The traveler`s checks from Bank International Indonesia were issued for Bank Artha Graha, upon the request of PT First Mujur Plantation and Industry, which wanted to buy oil palm plantations, spread over 5,000 hectares, from a businessman named Ferry Yen or Suhardi Suparman.

According to reports, the checks were held by PT Wahana Esa, a palm oil company belonging to Nunun, before being distributed to the legislators.

KPK spokesman Johan Budi earlier said KPK was continuing its investigation into the case in order to nail the financier of the bribe.

He added the KPK had questioned some witnesses from private firms, but declined to reveal their names.

Johan said efforts were under way to find the "missing link". (*)
