Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Joko Suyanto attended an international meeting of high ranking officials responsible for security matters in St Petersburg, Russia, on June 7 and 8, 2012.

A press release in Jakarta Friday said that the subjects to be covered at the international meeting are securing energy, fighting piracy and combating cyber crime.

In the meeting Joko Suyanto conveyed several views of the Indonesian government of the three subjects. Global, regional as well as bilateral cooperation is very important in bringing about a stable and dynamic environment as well as mutual respect.

"The Indonesian government already managed to reduce carbon emissions by 26 pct in 2020, or 41 pct in the same year with international support," Djoko Suyanto said.

In overcoming the problem, Indonesia prioritized energy efficiency, conservation and diversification in facing increased domestic and global energy needs.

In international energy cooperation, Indonesia emphasized the importance of accessibility, navigational safety and freedom of the transportation of energy resources.

Indonesia also called for attention of global awareness of the impact of oil price increases following regional conflicts affecting the security and safety of the traffic of energy resources.

"The conflicts between certain countries should not affect other peaceful countries," Djoko said.

The big attention in the meeting is focused on energy security issues. The participants stressed the need for a joint action of the international community as a solution to solve problems based on the interest of the producing countries, transit countries and the consumers as well as the importance of a dialogue among them in facing the transformation dynamics of energy producing industries.

Other important issues are joint action in facing piracy, especially in international transportation routes.(*)
