"Hopefully, they would realize their investment plans soon," Turkish Ambassador to Indonesia Zekeriya Akcam said when visiting the Industry Ministry here on Sunday.
Noting that the two countries had maintained good relations in the economic and political fields since tens of years ago, Akcam said the countries needed to foster the existing good relations on a mutually beneficial basis.
"We will invite the Indonesian government to take part in a business expo in Turkey in August," he said.
Director General of International Industrial Cooperation at the Industry Ministry Agus Tjahajana meanwhile said the existing good relations would hopefully benefit the two nations in the future.
"Turkey is one of the destinations of Indonesia`s exports, particularly textile, rubber and a number of other products. We are looking forward to inviting the country to increase its investment in Indonesia," he said.
He expressed hope that Turkish investment would have a multiplier effect including on the creation of job opportunities.
"While economic crisis is engulfing many parts of Europe, Turkey intends to invest in Indonesia. The investment will create more jobs in Indonesia," he said.
According to data from the Trade Ministry in Jakarta, trade between Indonesia and Turkey reached US$1.38 billion in 2010, up from US$1.27 billion in 2009. Indonesia has a $769 million trade surplus with Turkey. (*)
