"Indonesia has a variety of art and cultural attractions."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia ranks 39th globally in terms of cultural heritage, according to the World Economic Forum (WEF), Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu said.

"There is a great potential that creative economy players can exploit," Mari stated here on Friday.

"The ranking means that Indonesia has cultural heritages that can inspire the growth of creative economy," she said.

"Indonesia has a variety of art and cultural attractions, coming from its more than 300 different tribes and ethnic groups, which could be used to enrich the creative economy," Mari added.

"It is time for us to develop a creative economy based on art and culture, because the domestic market for it has been growing," she said.

The minister noted that 27 percent of Indonesia`s population of 237 million was in the productive age group, which could support the development of the creative economic sector.

She said her office had adopted programs and strategies to develop the art-and culture-based creative economy.

"The strategies include the development of resources and technology, the overall development of creative industry, the improvement of access to financing sources, and the strengthening of institutions," Mari added.

The art- and culture-based creative economy has been categorized into film, music, painting and performing arts industries.
