Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said an authoritarian system is a future time bomb.

"It may be true that the system could make every program easily implemented (development) and control be easily done but we also learned from many countries that it could also become a time bomb," he said at a meeting to break the fast with the leadership of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) at the residence of DPD chief, Irman Gusman, here on Monday.

President Yudhoyono said that a democratic system is better as the system could assure a more just and equal development.

In the case of Indonesia, the President said that democracy continued to develop and transform into a mature one. He admitted that during the process obstacles and challenges were found.

"A mature, living, democracy assures strong support from the people, better development efforts. A mature democracy is better than any other system. So, let us make our democracy mature," he said.

President Yudhoyono said that decentralization and regional autonomy being carried out so far was a correction of the past centralistic system of development that failed.

He said the system of decentralization and regional autonomy is one of the ways to achieve equal and just distribution of development.

So, despite all the challenges it must continue to be developed, he said.

"The decentralization and regional autonomy is our choice, a correction of the past centralistic development efforts. So do not hesitate and turn around. The correct implementation of decentralization and regional autonomy would bring justice and equal development," he said.

Irman Gusman on the occasion said that the transformation process in Indonesia has not yet finished and therefore a lot of hard work is still needed from all stakeholders. (YH/S012/BSR)
