"I will continue to fight for the rest of my life for a spotless legal profession and more just laws."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Deputy Minister of Justice and Human Rights Denny Indrayana in a press conference held on Monday, apologized to the community of lawyers, for posting an objectionable tweet commenting on lawyers who defend persons accused of corruption.

"I apologize for the inconvenience and misunderstanding that my remarks have created for all lawyers and advocates of the legal profession who have clean service record," the deputy minister said.

Indrayana also invited lawyers to work with him towards ridding the honorable legal profession of lawyers who indulge in unscrupulous behavior while handling corruption cases.

Earlier, the deputy minister had mentioned an individual and dishonest advocate, who allegedly has a tendency of using corrupt means for getting his clients freed, including resorting to bribery.

The minister also urged all lawyers to not hesitate from making Indonesian law enforcement cleaner and purge it of all unscrupulous individuals.

"I call upon all of us, i.e. the entire legal profession to not retreat a single step in this endeavor," Indrayana stated.

He expressed his sincerity and readiness in accepting any risks involved in this fight for an honest rule of law in Indonesia, and for keeping the legal profession clean and fair.

"I will continue to fight for the rest of my life for a spotless legal profession and more just laws," he stated.

Indrayana`s tweet on the social networking site Twitter, which triggered a strong reaction of some senior advocates, was issued on August 17, in which he tried to explain the remission policy applicable to special offenders.

Reacting to his tweet, he was reported to the police by a lawyer named O.C. Kaligis.

The minister had also tried to explain on Twitter that the country`s anti-corruption policies have become more stringent because of dishonest practices involving money, that are followed by lawyers who defend persons accused of corruption.

"A corrupt lawyer is also a corruptor. Advocates blindly defend their clients and then shamelessly receive money that has been sourced from their client`s corrupt behavior," Indrayana had said via his twitter account @dennyindrayana.
