Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The initial study of Seokarno-Hatta international airport`s railway project is expected to be completed by March 2013.

"The airport`s railway project is currently in the stage of lane study," President Director of PT Sarana Multi Infrastructure Persero, Emma Sri Martini said here on Tuesday.

The government and other concerned parties will decide this month on the routes to serve the western and southern parts of Jakarta, including the capital city`s Central Business Districts (CBD) golden triangle.

"We will carry out a feasibility study in October 2012. We are determined for the project to be implemented," Martini said during a seminar on the Soekarno-Hatta railway project.

According to Martini, the project will consist of three stages, namely due diligence, lane study and pre-feasibility study.

"After the pre-feasibility study, we will proceed to the financial ministry and the Indonesian Trading Company (PPI) for funding, and to the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) for market sounding," she added.

After the completion of the initial study, bidding for the project construction will start in late 2013 and construction on the project will start in the second semester of 2014. Financial closure on the project is expected in the second quarter of 2014, according to Martini.

The Soekarno-Hatta international airport is among the busiest airports in the world and the number of passengers using the airport has increased by more than 15 percent annually, over the past several years.

By 2020, the airport is expected to be able to accommodate up to 62 million passengers.

The airport is expected to have a final capacity of up to 85 million passengers, or an increase of 70 percent over the current capacity.

The expansion project of the airport has been named after the nation`s founding fathers Soekarno and Mohammad Hatta and was launched in August 2012 with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Boediono leading the groundbreaking ceremony.

Yudhoyono said that the expansion of the largest international gateway into Indonesia holds strategic significance as the country prepares for full integration into the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015.
