Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare, Agung Laksono has congratulated the Joko Widodo - Basuki Tjahaja Purnama pair for gaining the majority vote in the second round of Jakarta`s gubernatorial election held on Thursday.

"I congratulate Jokowi (on gaining the majority vote) although we still have to wait for the final vote count," Agung said here on Thursday.

He expressed hope that Jokowi will be able to solve a number of problems faced by the capital, including traffic, flood and poverty.

"Jokowi must prove that he will be able to create a new Jakarta during his term of office," he said.

Agung said that Jokowi, who is currently the mayor of Solo city in Central Java should also be able to raise the living standards of Jakarta residents, particularly the middle and low-income groups.

"He must register real achievements, particularly in the field of people`s welfare," he said.

Based on the results of a quick count by the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI), the Jokowi-Basuki pair gained 53.68 percent of the vote and incumbent Governor Fauzi Bowo, who teamed up with Nachrowi Ramli got 46.32 percent.

Meanwhile, another pollster Indobarometer put the Joko Widodo - Basuki Tjahaja Purnama pair in the first place with 54.11 percent of the vote and the Fauzi Bowo - Nachrowi Ramli pair in the second place with 45.89 percent.
